Ethical Approval of Pedagogical Research: When? Why? How?

This workshop is aimed at staff planning on undertaking pedagogical research or scholarship. Pedagogic research and scholarship is a key objective of the new Teaching and Learning Strategy, with the contributions made by staff in this area being recognised and rewarded. Professional practice requires that pedagogical research follows sound ethical practice: funding applications (such as those of the HEA) and editors of pedagogical journals require an analysis of the ethical issues of proposed studies, whilst the process of applying for ethical approval can improve the research design itself.
In this interactive workshop staff will be encouraged to reflect on the need for ethical approval in their own pedagogic research and given guidance for facilitating ethical approval and review by external agencies.
